Big money moves in Delta! If you’ve been looking for where to put your cash, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori just made it a whole lot more attractive.
This is huge. Delta State is not playing small at all.
As reported by cbinews.tv, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba that the state government has set aside a whopping $100 million — that’s about N133.8 billion — as viability gap funding to de-risk new investments.
And yes, he made it very clear: “This one we are not borrowing. We are not going to borrow the money. The money is there.”
Talk about putting your money where your mouth is! According to him, it’s a practical demonstration that his administration is totally committed to making sure every deal signed at the summit actually happens without delay.
But that’s not all.
The Governor also revealed that over 12,000 hectares of farmland have been earmarked for agricultural development for prospective investors. If you’re in agribusiness, this is your cue.
He said his administration’s agro-industrialisation plan is packed with opportunities for profitable private sector investment, especially in the value chain production of cassava, oil palm, rice, potato and other cash crops.
In his words: “It is my pleasure to announce that in preparation for this summit, over 12,000 hectares of farmland have been marked for agricultural development for prospective investors. And in addition, the entire state has a coastline of one to three kilometres suitable for development of a thriving marine economy.”
Worried about security? Oborevwori says you can relax. He assured investors that security has improved significantly, noting that their investment in the sector has boosted morale, improved trust between security forces and residents, and created a safer environment for business.
He even dropped a major flex — Delta was adjudged the safest state for oil and gas investment in Nigeria in 2024 by the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
“This is an overwhelming vote of confidence in the state as an investor’s heaven,” he added.
So, cheap land, $100m safety net, safer environment, and a ready marine economy? Delta is really pitching itself as the next big investment hub.
