England FA Withdraws Support for Gianni Infantino

Things are getting really messy at the top of world football, and England has officially had enough!
The English Football Association is set to write to FIFA President Gianni Infantino to withdraw its support for him amid fallout from his scrapped plan to sell off stakes in FIFA competitions to private investors.
UEFA is absolutely livid and is now threatening legal action, arbitration and regulatory complaints. Wales has also publicly pulled its backing for Infantino to continue as FIFA president.
So what actually happened? FIFA and Infantino wanted to create a new commercial subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise to run its main events, including the World Cups, and allow outside investors to buy minority non-controlling stakes.
According to reports, Infantino wrote to all 211 FIFA member associations saying they would receive 40 million dollars if they backed the controversial proposal, with a deadline of 19 September to access an initial 20 million dollars. The investor group was expected to be led by American venture capital firm Thrive Eternal, founded by Joshua Kushner.
UEFA is not having any of it. In a letter first reported by The Telegraph, it told Infantino to immediately identify and preserve all documents and electronically stored information relating to the plan, including emails, WhatsApp messages, Signal messages, Teams messages and meeting notes.
The Asian Football Federation says it stands in solidarity with UEFA and Concacaf, while Africa, South America and Oceania have not criticised the plan. Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Sri Lanka have pledged support for Infantino to continue.
If he holds on until March, he could stand for re-election for a fourth and final term and would need 106 votes from 211 members to win.
But here is where it gets spicy. The FIFA Council could try to force him to resign through an emergency meeting if 19 of the 37 Council members call for one. That meeting must then take place within two weeks.
It is a full-blown power struggle, and Europe is leading the revolt.
