The CP says the latest warning is part of ongoing efforts to reform tactical operations and restore public trust in the force.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State has issued a strong warning that the state’s tactical task force will be completely disbanded if officers continue to engage in acts of misconduct, extortion, and unprofessional behaviour.
CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh made the threat during a meeting with senior officers and task force commanders, expressing deep frustration over repeated complaints from members of the public about harassment, illegal checkpoints, and demands for bribes.
“Enough is enough. If this ugly trend does not stop immediately, I will have no choice but to recommend the total disbandment of the task force to higher authorities,” Olohundare reportedly said.
CBI News reports that the commissioner directed all tactical units to strictly adhere to rules of engagement, respect citizens’ rights, and focus solely on combating violent crimes rather than targeting innocent road users and commercial drivers.
Residents and transport unions have long criticised the task force for operating illegal roadblocks and extorting money, especially in areas like Ikorodu, Oshodi, and along major highways.
