The seized drugs have a street value estimated in millions of naira.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of illicit drugs cleverly hidden inside winter jackets and containers of body cream at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
The agency revealed that the narcotics, which included cocaine and methamphetamine, were discovered during routine screening of inbound and outbound cargo over the past week.
CBI News reports that in one seizure, NDLEA officers found pellets of cocaine sewn into the linings of several winter jackets imported from South America. Another interception involved methamphetamine concealed within jars of skincare cream, with the traffickers attempting to disguise the drugs as legitimate cosmetic products.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said the operations demonstrate the agency’s heightened vigilance at entry points and the increasingly sophisticated methods used by drug cartels.
No arrests have been announced yet, but investigations are ongoing to trace the syndicates behind the shipments.
