Nigeria climbs 12 places to 26th in the latest FIFA rankings...
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have surged to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Monday, recording an impressive 12-place jump following their strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Nigeria’s senior national team moved up from 38th in the previous ranking after finishing third at the continental tournament, a result that significantly boosted the country’s global football standing.
The bronze medal finish marked one of the Super Eagles’ most consistent outings in recent years and underscored their resurgence on the international stage.
CBI News reports that the sharp rise in the ranking reflects Nigeria’s positive results against strong opposition during the AFCON campaign, as well as the team’s improved form across recent international fixtures.
Their performances in Morocco demonstrated tactical discipline, resilience and attacking quality, all of which contributed to the notable ranking improvement.
With the latest update, Nigeria is now ranked as the third-best team in Africa. AFCON champions Senegal remain second on the continent, while tournament hosts Morocco retained its first position in Africa.
Algeria and Egypt complete Africa’s top five, ranking fourth and fifth respectively on the continent.
At the global level, Spain currently occupy the number one position in the FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina and France.
England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Croatia complete the world’s top 10 teams.
