In Tudun Wada, what began as intermittent disruptions has escalated into a prolonged and devastating power outage, plunging businesses and households into darkness for extended periods. This crisis has transcended mere inconvenience, evolving into a severe economic hardship that threatens the very survival of local enterprises and livelihoods.
CBI News spoke exclusively with affected residents and business owners, where frustration ran high amid tales of plummeting revenues and mounting losses.
Henry Madaki, owner of a beverage store, described how the blackout has forced him to discard perishable goods and turn away customers, while Mark Sarki, a mobile phone technician, highlighted the impossibility of charging devices or operating essential repair equipment without reliable electricity.
The impact extends further. John Usman, a metal fabricator and welder, can no longer run his machinery, leading to halted production and lost contracts. Sekyen Dauda, who operates a popular cafe, struggles with food spoilage and inability to serve hot meals or keep the business open late. Grace Shitnaan, who runs a laundry service, faces similar woes as irons, washing machines, and dryers remain idle. Q Resident John Ogbo echoed the community's growing despair, noting the broader toll on daily life and household earnings.
Faced with these mounting challenge, the Tudun Wada community are united in a desperate appeal, treating the situation as a full emergency. They are calling on Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED) and the Plateau State government to intervene urgently and restore stable power supply.
In an exclusive response to CBI News, Saratu Aliyu Dauda, Acting Head of Corporate Communications at Jos Electricity Distribution Plc (JED), outlined the company's ongoing efforts to address the outages.
She stressed JED's commitment to collaborating with community leaders to tackle root causes, while urging residents to report faults promptly through official channels.
The Disco's official appealed to communities to safeguard electrical infrastructure against vandalism—a persistent issue exacerbating service disruptions.
As negotiations and appeals continue, the people of Tudun Wada remain watchful, hoping these engagements will soon bring tangible relief: the return of light to revive their struggling businesses and restore normalcy to their community.
