A faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated caretaker committees across all 20 local government areas of Lagos State, deepening an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
The inauguration follows the faction’s recent announcement dissolving state executive committees in several states, including Lagos.
Analysts see the move as another twist in the prolonged crisis over the PDP’s national leadership.
The factional National Working Committee (NWC) aligned with Wike is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as national chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as national secretary.
Speaking at the event on behalf of Mohammed, the faction’s deputy national secretary, Adedeji Doherty, said the party’s rebuilding must start from the grassroots.
He directed the newly inaugurated local government caretaker committees to strengthen party structures at ward, zonal and council levels, and to commence membership registration and revalidation.
“This is a special assignment. We must not take it with levity. We must get results,” Doherty said.
He also instructed the committees to reconstitute the PDP’s women and youth wings and to set up five-member Elders Unity Forums in each local government area to promote guidance and reconciliation.
The Lagos State caretaker committee chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, urged members to reconnect the party with grassroots supporters, describing the task as a rare opportunity to revive the PDP in the state.
